The reasonable case for gut health
Your gut influences immunity, mood, hormone metabolism, and inflammation. That doesn't mean every probiotic on the shelf will change your life.
Evidence-supported foundations
- 30+ different plants per week for microbial diversity
- Adequate fiber (25–40g/day) from whole foods
- Fermented foods 3–5x per week
- Minimizing ultra-processed foods and unnecessary antibiotics
When to test
Comprehensive stool testing is useful for persistent GI symptoms, autoimmune concerns, or unexplained fatigue. It is not a screening tool for asymptomatic adults.
What to skip
Expensive "detox" cleanses, single-strain probiotics marketed for weight loss, and anything sold with fear.
