EXOMIND and depression
Depression is a real medical condition, not a character flaw or a failure of willpower. This page explains how transcranial magnetic stimulation is studied in depression and, just as importantly, what it cannot promise.

Starting point
Depression is a medical condition.
Major depressive disorder affects mood, energy, sleep, appetite, concentration, motivation and the ability to experience pleasure. It is diagnosed clinically, and it responds to treatment — often to more than one form of treatment at once.
Many people arrive at TMS after trying other approaches. That is a common and legitimate path. It does not mean earlier treatment failed them or that they failed treatment.
Neuroscience
Brain networks, not a single switch.
Research associates depression with altered activity and connectivity across distributed brain networks, including regions involved in executive control and emotional regulation. The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is one accessible node within those networks, which is why it is frequently targeted in TMS protocols.
Stimulating a node is not the same as curing a condition. The honest framing is that TMS is one intervention aimed at influencing activity within a system that many factors shape.
Evidence
What the research does and doesn't say.
What it says
Repetitive TMS has been studied extensively in major depressive disorder and is used clinically within FDA-cleared indications after appropriate evaluation. Published literature describes its tolerability profile and commonly reported effects.
What it doesn't say
Research does not establish that any single treatment works for every patient, does not predict an individual's outcome, and does not support claims of guaranteed results. Individual outcomes vary.
We publish evidence status openly in the research library, including where results are pending or a use is investigational.
Whole person care
Where EXOMIND may fit.
Neuromodulation is one layer of a plan, and it works best when the rest of the plan is taken seriously.
Psychotherapy
Evidence based talk therapy remains central to depression care for many patients.
Medication
Prescribed and managed by the appropriate clinician, with adjustments over time.
Neuromodulation
Approaches such as TMS, considered following evaluation and safety screening.
Sleep, movement + nutrition
Physiological foundations that influence mood, energy and treatment response.
Medical evaluation
Thyroid, metabolic, hormonal and nutritional factors that can mimic or worsen symptoms.
Connection + support
Relationships, community and structure clinically meaningful, not sentimental.
Eligibility
Who may be evaluated?
Adults experiencing persistent depressive symptoms may be evaluated to determine whether EXOMIND could be appropriate. Evaluation includes medical and mental-health history, current medications, prior treatment, and a safety screening that reviews implanted devices and neurological history.
Some people will be told that EXOMIND is not appropriate for them. That answer is part of good medicine, and we will give it plainly when it applies.
