Frequently asked questions

What is EXOMIND?

EXOMIND is a non invasive brain stimulation system that uses ExoTMS technology, a form of transcranial magnetic stimulation. A specialized applicator generates rapidly changing magnetic fields outside the head that can stimulate targeted areas of the cerebral cortex. At Therapoint, EXOMIND is provided within a physician led program following appropriate clinical evaluation.

What is ExoTMS?

ExoTMS is the transcranial magnetic stimulation technology used by the EXOMIND system. For device specific parameters and cleared uses, manufacturer documentation and regulatory records are the appropriate reference.

Is EXOMIND TMS?

EXOMIND applies transcranial magnetic stimulation. TMS is the broader category of technology; EXOMIND is one system within it, and specific devices differ in applicator design, protocols and cleared indications.

Is EXOMIND FDA cleared?

Clearance is always specific to a device and a defined indication. Some TMS applications are FDA cleared for major depressive disorder, while other uses may be investigational. During a consultation, our team will tell you exactly which indication is being discussed for you and what its regulatory status is.

What conditions is EXOMIND used for?

In clinical practice, TMS is most commonly discussed in the context of major depressive disorder. Whether EXOMIND is relevant to your situation is a medical determination made after evaluation not something a website can answer.

Does EXOMIND treat depression?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation is used within depression care as one treatment modality among several. It is not a guarantee of improvement, and it is not appropriate for every person with depression.

Does EXOMIND replace therapy?

No. Neuromodulation is a different kind of tool than psychotherapy. Many patients continue therapy, and in many cases the more useful question is how different forms of care work together.

Can I continue seeing my therapist?

Yes and we encourage it. With your authorization, we are glad to communicate with your therapist or psychiatrist so care stays coordinated.

Can I take medication during treatment?

Many patients continue prescribed medication. Bring a complete medication list to your evaluation so the treatment team can review it.

Should I stop my antidepressant?

Never stop or change a prescribed medication on your own. Any change should be made in coordination with your prescribing clinician.

Does treatment hurt?

Experiences vary. Patients commonly describe tapping, pulsing, pressure or scalp sensations, and some report temporary discomfort or headache. Tell your treatment team about discomfort or unexpected symptoms.

Am I awake during treatment?

Yes. Patients remain awake during EXOMIND treatment sessions.

Is anesthesia required?

TMS treatment does not require anesthesia or sedation.

How many treatments do I need?

Treatment courses vary by protocol and clinical situation. Your recommended course, and the reasoning behind it, is explained before treatment begins.

How long does each session take?

Session length depends on the protocol used. Your treatment team will tell you what to plan for before your first session.

When will I notice results?

Timing varies between individuals, and some people do not respond. Responses are tracked with symptom measures rather than impressions alone.

What if I don't respond?

Non response is a real possibility and part of the conversation from the beginning. If symptoms are not improving, your plan is re evaluated and other options are discussed.

Are there side effects?

Commonly reported effects include scalp discomfort, tapping sensations and headache. Less common and serious risks exist, which is why screening and monitoring matter.

Can TMS cause a seizure?

Seizure is a rare but recognized risk described in the TMS literature. Screening for seizure and neurological history is part of evaluating whether treatment is appropriate.

Who should not receive TMS?

Eligibility depends on individual factors including certain implanted devices, neurological history and other medical considerations. This is determined through clinical screening.

What about metal or implanted devices?

Certain implanted metallic or electronic devices may affect eligibility. Tell the team about any implant, stimulator, clip, shunt or device before screening is completed.

Can I drive afterward?

TMS does not require sedation, and many patients resume their day afterward. Your team will give you specific guidance based on your situation and how you feel.

What happens after my treatment series?

Follow up focuses on how you are doing, whether gains are holding, and what ongoing care makes sense including therapy, medical care and lifestyle support.

How do I know if EXOMIND is right for me?

That question is answered through a medical evaluation, not through marketing. A consultation exists to determine whether EXOMIND may be appropriate for you at all.
